Question- Describe the Subject Matter of Remedial English.

What subject matter should be taught by a teacher while teaching remedial English?

Subject Matter or Scope of Remedial English 

Term 'Remedial English' is very wide and contains the following topics- 

1. Sentences - According to Concise Oxford Dictionary of Current English, "A sentence is a set of words complete in itself as expression of thought." It is a group of words which say something and clarifies a complete sense. It is a basic unit of the language consisting at least one independent verb with the subject.

Examples of Sentences - These are as under - 

(i) Meena is writing. 
(ii) This dish is not fit to eating. 

Component Parts of Sentence - Following are the essential component parts of a sentence - 
(i) Subject which refers to the person or thing about whom you say something.

Some Examples -

Subject - Mohan, Verb - writes, Direct object - a letter, Indirect object - to his mother.

(ii) These books are costly.

These - Qualifier, books - Head word, are - Verb, costly - Complements.

(iii) My elder brother likes swimming in the river.

My - Determiner, elder - Qualifying word, likes - Verb, swimming - Direct object, is the river - Complements.

Kinds of sentences, kinds of phrases, parts of speech, nouns, gender, rules of singular nouns, nouns in plural form etc. are taught by the teacher.

2. Pronouns - Pronoun is a word used in place of noun. In remedial English teacher taught in the classroom the definition, kinds, etc. of pronoun.
Kinds of Pronoun - Following are the kinds of pronoun -
(i) Personal Pronoun,
(ii) Reflexive Pronoun
(iii) Emphatic Pronoun,
(iv) Reciprocal Pronoun
(v) Demonstrative Pronoun

Kinds of Verb - These are as under -
(i) Transitive verb, and
(ii) Intransitive verb

3. Conjunction - A conjunction is a word that joins two words or sentences. Meaning, kinds and examples of conjunction should be taught in the classroom.
Kinds of Conjunction - These are as under -
(i) Co-ordinating conjunction,
(ii) Subordinating conjunction.
Examples -
(i) Hari and Shyam are coming.
(ii) Wisemen love truth while fools shun it.

4. Interjection - Interjections are those words which express of feelings.
Examples - Alas, Hurrah, Bravo, Hark, Hello etc.

5. Active and Passive Voice - Voice is a forms of verb. Voice is of two kinds - active voice and passive voice. In active voice sentence place of subject is main. For example Tinku kills a rat. In passive voice the place of object is main. For example - A rat is killed by Tinku. 

6. Conditional Sentences - Conditional sentences are co-ordination of a main clause and subordinate clause. These sentences are made by using the following terms - 
Even if, even though, whether-or, unless, but for, but that, provided etc. 
Examples - 
1. In case she goes, he will help her. 
2. If kavita does not agree with me, I cannot forgive her. 
3. If I were a bird I would fly in the sky. 
4. Unless she wears boots, she may get bitten by a snake. 
5. Please, keep quiet, you will enjoy the music programme. 
6. If we do not run fast, we shall miss the train. 
7. Provided that you have patience, you can pass the exam.
