Question- What do you understand by silent reading?

Silent Reading :- Oral reading cann't be called the best training or preparation of thought. It is often parrot-reading because the attention of the student is focused on pronouncing the words, not on the understanding the meaning they convey. He can concentrate his attention on their meaning, only when he does not read aloud. This means that reading should be silent. This is why silent reading is regarded as the most important aspect of reading.

According to Morrison :- "Loud reading should be followed by silent reading.

According to Mehta :- "We all read faster than we speak and children must be initiated into the silent reading habit as early as possible."

We can say that loud reading is included in silent reading as the mind keeps whispering the words and sounds, only to oneself indeed.
