Question- Why television is called the most helpful Audio-visual Teaching Aid?

Television : An Audio-visual Teaching Aid :- It was in 1961 that the Indian Television took a pioneering step when it started a special service for schools, in collaboration with the local Directorate of Education. This consists of a programme and selected subjects to supplement the regular classroom teaching. In 1972, 400 schools in the capital received these telecasts and over two lakh students benefitted by them. T.V. has all the advantages of a motion picture as :–

• It does not entail room darkening.
• It is portable.
• It has facility of replay, slow motion, frozen action etc.
• It shows simplicity.
• It does not need any helper.
• It has negligible recurring expenses.
• It has low cost of maintenance.
• It shows versatility.
• It is very easy in handling.
• Video cassettes being more handy are easy to store.

Due to its broad spreaded importance, Thut and Gerberich rightly commented that,
“Television is the most helpful audio-visual aid because in it the features of both radio and film are blended.”
