Question- What are the advantages of maps as a support material ?

Advantages of Maps : Many teachers think that maps are not needed in a lesson in English which is wrong. There are a lot of events in the Reader that should be pointed out on the map. Some of such advantages are illustrated below :

(i) Maps provide physical, cultural and geographical knowledge of a place.
(ii) Maps also provide the knowledge of directions—East, West, North and South.
(iii) Maps provide knowledge of climate.
(iv) Maps provide the distance between two places.
(v) Maps provide knowledge of height from sea level, formation of surface, countries with sparse population, countries with dense population, developing and developed countries etc.
(vi) Maps provide knowledge of height, depth, valleys and mountains of a place with the help of topographical maps.
(vii) Maps provide comparative knowledge of two countries, states etc.
(viii) Maps provide knowledge of railways, cities, rivers, oceans, plateaus, and plains by using symbolic language.
(ix) Maps provide comparative knowledge of rain climate, air-pressure, temperature, change of seasons etc. of various places.
