The five core principles of open publishing are :

(i) Re-use : The most basic level is its openness. People are allowed to use all or part of the work for their own purposes.

(ii) Re-distribute : The people can share the work with the others. A digital article, for e.g., can be sent by e-mail to a colleague.

(iii) Revise : People can adapt, modify, translate or change the work. For e.g., a book written in English can be turned into a Spanish audio book.

(iv) Re-mix : People can take two or more existing resources and combine them to create a new resource. For e.g., take audio lectures from one course and combine them with slides from another course to create a new derivative work.

(v) Retain : There is no such thing as Digital Rights Management Restrictions (DRM). The content is for the owner o keep whether the person is an author, an instructor using the material or a student.
