Question- Is the development of weaker sections and deprived people possible only through economic empowerment?

Answer -

On the strength of economic empowerment alone, sustainable development and growth of weaker sections and disadvantaged people cannot be ensured. Today development is considered to be a people-centred participatory process that has the potential to bring about qualitative changes in all aspects of human life. The definition of development has been given as follows - “is the broadly participatory process of social change in a society which means for the majority of the people both social and material progress through exerting more control over their environment” in which there is more equality, independence and other important properties (Rogers, 1976).
