Their work has some limit and which are only the means of achieving the narrow objective of education, are called formal meAnswer - In formal institutions, education is imparted deliberately. Under these resources, there are schools, museums, libraries, art galleries etc. All these means provide formal education to the children.
Formal institutions are created by the society to achieve its purpose. They are looked after by trained persons. Efforts are made to mold the work of these institutions through a time and place fixed plan, in which the process of education goes on in a systematic way.
Formal education also has its drawbacks. According to Dr. Dewey, "Formal education can very easily become frivolous, lifeless, vague and bookish. The accumulated knowledge in less developed societies can be turned into action. But what is learned in an advanced culture is in the form of symbols and cannot be translated into action. There is always the fear that formal education may become the subject matter of schools only, keeping no relation with life experience.
