Or
“Grammar is a servant of language not its master.” Explain.
Ans.
The word ‘Grammar’ means correct use of words. It is the science of language. It is an analytical and termonological study of sentences. Knowledge of language and knowledge of grammar are two different aspects of language. A child learns language first and there after he learns grammar of that language.
Grammar is an essential factor for the correctness of language. Dr. Sweet has defined grammar as a practical analysis of a language it its anatomy. According to the dictionary of eduction. Grammar is a part of language study that pertions to the different classes of words. Their relation to one another and thier functions in sentences.
Every language has grammar. But it is secondary for obtaining through knowledge of language, the place of grammar is second to the language. Knowledge of grammar enables is to convey correct expression wheather in speech or writing.
The knowledge of grammar is more important to a second language learner than to a native speaker grammar leads us twoards the accuracy of language.
This grammar is servent of language. It consists of rules regarding structure of words to form clauses and sentences. In the words of Dr. West, “Grammar is not a code of rules; It is like etiquette and table manners a statement of convention, It summarizes, What done by culture people and like etiquette, it is in a state of consrnt change.”
If the Grammar taught functionalcy the learner get the knowledge and try to apply in own life at lower level and the higher level it should be one and only formal because they get the basic knowledge already and they correlate it with the subject.
So both method are good for going the knowledge grammar at lower giving the knowledge of grammar at lower and higher level.
