The question is whether English is a discipline or not? For this purpose we should know the subject matter of English. English is an academic discipline taught in primary, secondary and post-secondary education in various countries. English comprises the study of literature written in English. English composition contains writing essays, short stories, and poetry. English language arts, including the grammar, usage, and style; the history of English language, English language learning and teaching. English linguistics. (morphology, phonetics, phonology, syntax etc.) is treated as a distinct discipline.
