Question- What is the nature of the courses available under CBCS?

Ans.

The course available are :

(i) Core Course (CC) : It is a course which should compulsorily be studied by a candidate as a core requirement on the basis of subject say of M.A./M.Sc./M.Com.

(ii) Elective Course (EC) : It is a course which can generally be chosen from a pool of courses (basket) and which may be very specific or specialized or advanced or supportive to the subject/discipline of study or which provides an extended scope or nurtures the candidates proficiency/skill.

(iii) Discipline Specific Course (DSC) : Elective courses may be offered by the main discipline / subject of study and are referred to as discipline specific elective course. These courses can also be inter disciplinary nature.

(iv) Generic Elective (GE) Courses : An elective course chosen generally from an unrelated discipline / subject with an intention to seek exposure is called a generic elective course.

(v) Ability enhancement/Skill Enhancement Courses : These are the courses which are based on the content that leads to the life skill enhancement. University will run a number of Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses (AECC) which are qualifying in nature and students from all faculties have to enroll and qualify in the courses.

(vi) Dissertation / Project / Internships / Industrial Training : It is an elective course which is designed to acquire specialized / advanced knowledge to supplement the study or provide support to a project work. In such a case, a candidate studies a course on his/her own with an advisory support by a teacher/ faculty member and is referred to as a dissertation project.
