Question- What are the disadvantages of Choice Based Credit System?
Ans.
In spite of many disadvantages there are some disadvantages of CBCS and they are :
(i) Grading system in CBCS results in difficulty to measure or calculate the exact marks.
(ii) Teachers would suffer due to increase in workload. It can even affect the regular teaching.
(iii) In order to maintain compatibility among main subjects papers and soft papers could be challenging.
(iv) Sometimes offering more than one program of different nature simultaneously can be challenging.
(v) Limited resources and many courses can lead to imbalance in teaching and learning resources.
(vi) Extra burden would be experienced by the institution as CBCS has the flexibility in taking or choosing 32 credits.
(vii) Equalization in standard of education system is sometimes difficult to maintain.
(viii) Mobility or transferring of students from one institution to another can lead to many new problems.
(ix) Learner fails to acquire mastery over concerned subjects as he learns many subjects.
(x) Students lack seriousness in examination as much weightage is given to internal assessment and evaluation.
(xi) Mobility and more of courses can lead to increase in infrastructure or accommodation to the students.
(xii) Equalization of performance may discourage the gifted and talented students.
(xiii) Teachers spend more of their time in setting papers evaluation and making assignment for examination. Innovations in teaching often takes a back seat.
(xiv) Chance of subjectivity would be maximum as internal evaluation has 40% weightage.
(xv) When mobility of the students form one university to another is given priority, it may pose problems in maintaining the cumulative record of every student and threat to the new institutions.
