Shopping Procedure on the Internet

The shopping on the internet is becoming increasingly popular and many more high street stores and supermarkets are now offering this facility. It would be impossible to list all of them in this leaflet, as the list is always changing. Mobile phones, books, clothing, household appliances, toys, hardware, software, health insurance etc. can be purchased from online stores. These online stores that help customer to purchase and sell goods online. There are multiple brands of products of the same item. The prices also vary from one brand to another and one product to another though the products look very similar to each other. This makes it very confusing for the buyer and so there needs to be a guide that helps the people to buy the product that they want. Consumers can buy a huge variety of items from online stores, and just about anything can be purchased from companies that provide their products online. Internet shopping is the process of buying goods and services from merchants over the Internet. Since the emergence of the World Wide Web, companies have sought to sell their products to people who spend time online. Shoppers can visit web stores from the comfort their homes.

Following steps are taken while shopping on the internet-

(I) Search for a Product : Type the name of the item, customer wants to buy into the search box of a search engine.

(II) Decide to Purchase the Product : At this step in the process of buying the product is to decide to buy the product. This is not an easy decision because of the fact that they have to have an eye on their financial situation and also have to decide if he is going to buy the product online.

(III) Decide the Kind of Product to Buy : The customer should decide on what kind of product to buy. This involves a lot of research and the research can be done online. The research is done to compare the features of the product with the other products. The comparison of the price is also done.

(IV) Check the Prices and Features : If customer is planning to buy a particular product, then he has to check the prices and features together to understand the best value for money.

(V) Make Payment : Shopping is on the internet gives chance to inspect the items customer have placed in his shopping basket and change them at any time. Only when he is totally happy with his order, should pay.

To do this, he will need a credit or debit card. He can easily pay for your shopping over the internet using your card but he should always check that his card details are kept securely. When he is asked to pay for his goods, a messages should appear on his computer confirming that he is using a secure internet page.

He should never give out his credit card details unless he is convinced the internet page is a secure one.

When he purchases goods either in the high street or over the internet, he has rights as consumers. As an internet shopper he has the right to:

Clear information about goods and services
A confirmation of this in writing if appropriate

A seven working day cooling off period in which to cancel his order if he changes his mind (different arrangements would obviously exist for food ordered via internet shopping)

Protection of his credit card against fraud.

Shopping from home puts him in control but he may feel that he needs extra help going through the catalogue or compiling his shopping list.
