Use of Internet in Business Processes

Internet is used in the following business processes-

1. In making Communication : A business ability to communicate with its employees, customers and associates changed dramatically when the Internet yielded new communication tools. E-mail and instant messaging have changed the face of business communication.

2. Telecommuting : Internet helps business firm in telecommuting. The employees can work from home and it decreases overhead costs by needing less office space and using less in utilities for daily operation.

3. Advertising : The Internet in a business advertising budget extends a business ability to attract customers from their backyard to all four corners of the globe. Websites, allow a firm to have a presence on the web and reach millions of potential customers.

4. Internet Marketing : With the advent of internet marketing, a firm must stay abreast of the needs of its customers. Competition is no longer localized, a firm has competition all over the world. It is imperative that a business firm know what its customers want and deliver it. Surveys, questionnaires, feedback froms and comments on a website can be used to monitor customers needs.

5. Collaboration : Working with other business firms and professionals is simplified with the use of the Internet. Internet seminars, make collaborating on projects with people all over the world as easy as logging onto a website.

6. Reach a worldwide audience : The Internet is a worldwide network allowing business firms to reach people even very expensive advertising could not.

7. Product information : Give customer direct access to information about firm 's products. The Internet has an unsurpassed ability to make information about your company's products or services available to potential customers. It also provides the information when the customer wants it (now).

8. Research : Business firms use the Internet to research new product ideas, new methods of creating products and pricing information. A business can also research the competition to see what products and services are offered. If a firm is looking to expand into a particular location, the Internet can be used to research the population and its needs.

9. Level customer service load : E-mail provides "asynchronous communication" that can help level the load. Customers with problems that do not require immediate attention can send an e-mail message through your Web site which can be handled when support people are not busy.

10. Inexpensively create / augment corporate image : It is and inexpensive to define your image on the internet.

11. Provide easy access: When customers have a question, or would like to speak with a person, provide a list of contacts and phone numbers or allow them to send e-mail directly to a customer service representative.

In an age of graphical, networked computing, this function is less necessary. Simple graphical interfaces can be designed to allow customers to find the information they want quickly.

12. Recruit employees: Companies, provide current information about job openings and attract talented people from places they could not reach otherwise.

13. Save on literature costs : Providing the information online reduces the need to print and mail product literature.

14. Provide service on-line : Many products and services can be delivered over the internet.

15. Help Customers understand : Computers do well to provide artificial intelligence, expertise, or analysis. The internet allows to deliver custom software applications and extend expertise virtually.

16. Give Customers access to information : the Internet allow companies to post information in the form of static Web pages.

17. Eliminate the middleman : The Internet is a vehicle for removing the middleman. This lowers prices for consumers and increases profits for firms.

Information on the business is placed in an assembled fashion in a common location. Access to this information is provided at reasonable costs. A mechanism for immediate feedback from consumers or business partners is provided. The cost of information delivery to internal and external sources is reduced.

Employee access to significant amounts of information is increased and an efficient means of updating and disseminating current information to customers and internal staff is provided.
