Question- What are the measures to end gender discrimination?
Related Short Answer Questions
- How awareness is capable of ending gender discrimination?
- Can gender discrimination be eliminated by the education of the girl child?
Answer -
The following measures can be presented as suggestions to reduce gender differences and gradually eliminate them :
-
Spread of mass education
The situation of discrimination between men and women will remain till the time education is propagated among the masses. In the real sense, the mind of the vast Indian population has to be educated, so that they can respect both the creations of God, free from the prejudices about the gender of boys and girls. Earlier, girls were not given to drive bicycles and vehicles, it was believed that they could not do this work, only men could do this work. But through education, awareness has come among the people and more should be brought so that people can understand that being a man or a woman does not matter. A person’s actions matter. In this way, gender discrimination can be reduced by promoting mass education. -
Bringing awareness
There is still a lack of awareness and the tradition of sheep-handling in the Indian society. For this reason, the feeling of discrimination that has been going on for years between men and women is still alive, which can be ended by bringing awareness. At present, there are many means of bringing awareness, such as television, radio, mobile, internet, street plays, movies, documentary films, wall writing, magazines, newspapers, etc., so that people are aware of the decreasing ratio of boy-girl and its ill-effects. should be made aware of. It will never be irrelevant here to outline the consequences of the decrease in the boy-girl ratio due to gender discrimination :
- Reduction in the boy-girl ratio.
- Disturbances in the social system.
- Not getting a girl for marriage.
- In the absence of girls, the qualities of love, kindness, sacrifice and sympathy will be lacking.
- Imperfection of the family
- Increase in incidents of molestation.
- Increase in adultery.
- Increase in human trafficking (girls).
- Promotion of prostitution
- If the number of women gradually ends, then it will not be possible for the creation to continue.
- If not a woman, then the concept of daughter, daughter-in-law, wife, mother, sister cannot even be imagined.
In this way, the above-mentioned ill-effects should be made aware so that the residents of all rural and urban areas can become aware and do not allow any discrimination on the basis of gender.

Spread of girl's education
Gender discrimination can also be reduced by spreading girl’s education on a wide scale. It is also known from looking at the data that where the literacy rate of girls is high, the girl sex ratio is also high, from this it is clear that education has a special role in sex ratio. An educated girl is not considered a burden on the family, but at present, girls are educated and fulfill family responsibilities which reduces gender discrimination. -
Improvement in education system
Indian education system is still following the British education system, due to which Indian education is becoming incomplete in fulfilling the objectives of Indian society. Girl’s education is also not possible in fulfilling their objectives. That is why most of the parents think that it is better than bookish knowledge that girls should become proficient in household chores and for this formal education is not considered necessary. Teaching methods, discriminatory treatment of girls in schools, lack of curriculum according to the needs and aptitudes of girls, low number of female teachers, schools being far away and lack of separate girls’ schools, lack of quality education, to prevent wastage and blockade lack of efforts, lack of proper system of vocational education of girls, lack of education in real life, etc. The proper solution to these problems should be done in this way :
- Education should be made according to Indian needs.
- Education should be linked to the real life needs of the girl child.
- Dynamic teaching methods and innovations should be used.
- There should be a diverse curriculum keeping in mind the needs and aptitudes of the girl child.
- Women teachers and school inspectors should be appointed.
- Education should be made quality.
- Women’s education should be made vocational and employable, so that education can be considered as a safe investment for them.
- There should be no discrimination on the basis of gender in schools.
- Every effort should be made to identify the causes of wastage and blockage in the girl child and stop it.
- Education of girls should be encouraged at the government level and proper arrangement of hostels for girls.
- Those working for the progress of girl’s education should be given incentives and some relaxation in standards.
5. Ban on social malpractices
There are many malpractices in the society, which both directly and indirectly affect women. Sati system, purdah system, child marriage, prohibition of widow marriage, female feticide etc. are prevalent in the society, due to which women are broken physically and mentally. So these evil practices should be stopped. Many efforts have been made in this direction and are also being done such as prohibition of child marriage by Sharda Act, abolition of sati system as a result of efforts of Raja Ram Mohan Roy, fixation of minimum age of 18 years for girl child marriage by constitution etc. By removing the various misconceptions spread about women, gender discrimination can be ended by giving them equal place in the society with men.
6. Administrative Efforts
The role of administrative efforts is also very important in eliminating gender differences. Whatever rules have been made by the government should be strictly followed. Administration should take strictest action against such hospitals, persons and clinics and their recognition should be abolished. The administration should encourage courageous and talented women and girls to reduce gender discrimination, so that the perception of the general public about girls can be changed.
7. Constitutional Remedies
The Constitution of India has expressed its commitment towards the development of women and many sections and provisions have been prescribed for their equality and there has been no discrimination between men and women in the Constitution, as much as fundamental rights for men. Equally, girls are also getting the same and in view of the backward condition of women, provisions have been made to make special efforts for their advancement. Special provisions have been made for the safety of women and provision has been made for punishment and fine. The Indian Constitution commits to a dignified life for all its citizens, including women. In this way, many constitutional remedies have been done, but there is not enough awareness about those remedies. Therefore, gender discrimination can be reduced by spreading awareness about these provisions.
