Question- What is necessary to protect the interests of the patriarchy?
Answer -
The mixture of power relations between different members of the society forms the basis of patriarchy. These power relations can be between men and women and they can also be between two men or two women. Power is an important feature to be noted in any patriarchal system and this power plays a very important role in protecting the interests of patriarchy. The power in the family may also lie with the mother and may even oppress her children or her daughters-in-law in terms of financial or physical independence or dowry. Power relations in this manner reproduce the dominance of patriarchy, which contributes towards gender-based violence. Such domination and violence perpetuate the status quo of power by perpetuating even more brutal forms of oppression, such as violence, and esoteric forms of law. Inequality should remain in perpetuity. Patriarchy is a structural force that influences power relationships—whether they are materially distressing or not.
India has traditionally been a male-dominated society where women in their daily lives have been subjected to physical and mental atrocities, molesting, sexually exploiting, robbing or raping women in public transport services, the prevailing reality of women’s lives have become. The growth of a nation is not only evaluated in terms of economic and statistical factors, but this growth also depends to a large extent on the crime rates in the social sector.
