Question- Discuss the continuity of cultural heritage of India.

Our culture on the whole has been continuous. From idol worship we Indians have progressed towards belief in one God. From the faith of God in the outer world we switched on to the concept of divinity within. From the faith in the outer Heaven and Hell, we have switched on to the concepts of Heaven and Hell within the very heart of man. From rotten customs we have switched on to the simplified religion not caring for the rites and ceremonies. We also absorbed some dynamic ideas from Islam and Christianity. Caste free and classeless society compelled us to say good bye to caste system and untouchability. The hatred against money-lending and charging interest in Islam made us also less money-minded and materialistic.

Indian culture did not develop into a finished product in any period. Throughout her long history, India’s culture has been changing and developing due to internal factors and contacts with other cultures. The process of change and development continues. Thus the culture of India like any other country is not a fixed entity. Many aspects of culture get discarded and others are changed. That way Indian culture has been continuous. In India we have now some elements of Harappa culture continuing to exist.
