बी.एड. सेमेस्टर-1 प्रश्नपत्र-I - फिलासफिकल पर्सपेक्टिव आफ एजुकेशन (अंग्रेजी भाषा में)
Question- Write a short note on Philosophy and Discipline.
Answer -
One of the important problems which always a teacher faces in the classroom is ‘discipline’. Regarding the nature of discipline the philosophers differ in their views. The conservative view of student behaviour involves such concepts as “discipline, authority, obedience, silence and others.” The conservatives are of opinion that man’s nature has evil tendencies. Therefore, strict discipline in school is essential to assist the child or the young to become disciplined. If he is allowed to follow his natural inclinations, he will learn little or nothing in school and will enter adult society wholly unprepared and indisciplined. Hence the good of the society and individual demand discipline.
The philosophers, who support liberal view, reject the traditional view of authority. According to them the teacher is not an absolute authority removed from or ranked above the class but is an integral element or part of the group. Hence experience and maturity give him certain prerogatives in the control of the class, but he has no authority ultimately derived from some supreme authority. Keeping in view this democratic spirit, the liberals reject the authoritarian attitudes and actions of the traditional teacher in favour of freedom.
