Characteristics of Education

1.  

   Conscious Process - Education in some sense is also called a conscious process. It is a process which is carried out deliberately and with effort. Teacher imparts education to the learner regularly.

2. It is a Process of Development - The individual develops as a result of education. Evolution is said to be the process by which the inner powers are manifested or erupted. In education, nothing is imposed from outside, but development takes place from within.

3. Education is a Process - Education is accepted as a process. Education is a process that continues throughout life. It is through this process of education that life develops.

4. Education is a two-pronged Process - There are two axes in the process of education i.e. teacher and student. It can also be said that both the teacher and the learner influence each other in the process. Both have an effect on each other’s personality.

5. The Process of Education continues throughout Life - Keeping in mind the broad and real meaning of education, it can be said that this process continues throughout life. The process of education starts from birth and continues till death. Education cannot be limited only in the form of school and institutional education.

6. Education has two sides - The process of education has two sides i.e., psychological and social. The study of the development of the child’s basic tendencies, emotions and natural forces is done under the psychological side of education and the study of social ideals, values and beliefs is done under the social side of education. In this subject, the famous educationist DV Sir says, "All types of education progress by actively participating in social life by the individual."
