Question- Elucidate four foremost functions of education in the perspective of present national conditions.

 

Answer -

Education is a deliberate, conscious as well as a dynamic process which enables individual as well as nations to develop, adjust and adopt to accelerated change. Education has many functions to perform both to train procedures and to develop the individuals in a nation and also to strengthen and develop the nation of which the individuals are integral parts. Today’s world is highly dynamic. Not only knowledge and technologies changes our physical environment but morality and ethics are also changes with an ever high pace. The foremost functions of education in the perspective of present national conditions are as follows:

 

(1) Promotion of National Interaction:Terrorism, regionalism and other such isms are trying with their tooth and nails to harm the integration of our country. Therefore it is the foremost function of education today to work for the promotion of National Integration.

 

(2) Eradication of Illiteracy: In the era of globalization the world is full of competition, every nation working for and against every other nation. In such a situation it is only the quality of citizens of a nation which makes a nation strong enough and to be a winner. Education in terms of Literacy is a proven quality booster. Hence, eradication of literacy is also a foremost function of education.

 

(3) Gender Equality: Women make about 50 percent of any nation. But almost everywhere in the world they are discriminated and biased for. India being a traditional country and because we were pulled down for centuries by different brutal forces, so India is more packed with gender discrimination. It is a hurdle in development. The only way to gender equality is educational progress.

 

(4) Technological Development: In the progressing world the community the fruits of development are shared more for the technologically stronger countries. Hence, not only literacy but technological literacy is also becoming a vital function of education for nation.

 

 

The above four functions of education contribute for the national development as they ensure unity, knowledge, equality and progress at the national platform.
