Ans.
Affective Objectives :- Affective domain is concerned with the interests, emotions, mental tendencies and values of the students. Their development is not an easy task because the interests, emotions, mental tendencies and values are individual conditions. These are first concerned with a particular person and then with other persons. It is not an easy task to understand their nature and determined elements. Since our interests sentiments, mental tendencies and values are unique traits of our personality, therefore in education these traits occupy very important place. It is the duty of a teacher to develop maximum the affective domain of the students by affective objectives Krath Whel has divided the affective objectives into the following six categories in order to develop the affective domain of the students :–
(i) Receiving,
(ii) Responding,
(iii) Valuing,
(iv) Conceptualization,
(v) Organization,
(vi) Characterization of value system.
Now we shall discuss about these categories in detail :–
(i) Receiving Objectives :- Receiving is directly concerned with the sensitivity of the students which occurs in the presence of some activity or stimulus. It indicates the student’s will to receive. Receiving has the following three levels :–
— awareness of the phenomenon.
— willingness to receive phenomena.
— controlled or selected scheme.
(ii) Responding Objective :- Responding is the next stage of the receiving stage. In this, students actively receive new knowledge under the influence of motivation. It has also three levels :–
— acquiescence in responding.
— willingness to respond. — satisfaction in response.
(iii) Valuing Objective :- Valuing means those values in which the students have their faith and they give special importance to those in their life. Valuing enables them in showing the sentiments or stable feelings in their behaviour with the change in the circumstances. It also has three levels which are given below :–
— acceptance of a value. — preference for a value.
— commitment.
(iv) Conceptualization Objective :- As the conviction regarding those values starts forming in the students, such situations also arise where more than one value is appropriate. In such situation student thinks which value he should retain.
(v) Organization Objective :- When such a situation changes before the students in which more than one value is appropriate, then they organize these received values in an order or sequence.
(vi) Characterization of a Value System :- Characterization of a value system is that level in which the consistency in the hierarchy of values of the students occurs. At this level, the teacher can characterize the knowledge of the value system of the students very easily. It also has two levels, which are shown below –
— generalized set.
— characterization.
