बीएड सेमेस्टर-2 अंग्रेजी शिक्षण - सरल प्रश्नोत्तर

Question- What do you understand by particular aim of teaching English ?

Or
What is your opinion, should be the special aims of teaching English in India ?

Ans.

Specific Aims of Teaching English :- Along with the general aims of Teaching English, a teacher should know the definite and clear cut aims for each lesson. These are called as Specific Aims. These specific aims will vary according to his teaching points. These aims are also called as 'objectives or short-term aims'. It is very important for a teacher to specify his objectives of teaching. Specific aims lay firm foundations of teacher's success.

It must be one and one only. The teacher should tell his specific aim to his students so that they may learn what they are going to learn.
These aims should be clear, precise, pointed and expressive in terms of achievements. These specific aims will vary according to his 'teaching points'. It is necessary for a teacher to specify his objectives of teaching. This helps him to know exactly what he is to do of a particular lesson.

For example, if the general aim is the teaching of Grammar, the teacher must have specific aims, such as teaching of Present Indefinite tense. It narrows down the area of learning and helps a teacher concentrate on one aspect of the whole subject and on language activity. Similarly, if the aim is Reading, the teacher will have to first give a model reading, make children comprehend by means of silent reading and then, make them read aloud. It is only at the stage of the silent reading that a student reacts with comprehension. If the aim is reading, it is not the loud reading which is only a preparation for silent and intelligent reading. As a matter of fact, students should be later discouraged to make humming noise while reading.

Again when teaching his next lesson on another tense, teacher will have the general aim of to teach grammer. But his specific aim will change this time, even though his topic remains the same. Specific aim gives definiteness and makes teaching purposive. These aims simplifies and focuses the preparation and implies that a teacher and his class should concentrate on the topic to be learnt. A singular, definite aim enables the teacher and the pupil to concentrate on one aspect of the whole subject and on one language activity. This clear-cut definiteness of aim gives focus which enables the teacher to see exactly what his pupils have to do in the lesson and it helps the pupils to realise exactly what they have to master.

Specific aims thus help both teacher and students to be on a clear, well defined, precise ground of action. So the general aims find their realisation in and through the specific aims.
