Portfolio is the collection of evidence of student's works over a period of time. It would be day-to-day works or selection of learner's best piece of work. Painters and commercial artists often use portfolios to demonstrate their skills and quality work before the selection committee. Portfolios in a school set-up, encourage teachers and schools to focus on important student's outcomes, provide parents and the community with credible evidence of student's achievement. Portfolios provide a cumulative record of growth and development of a skill or competence in an area over a period of time. It also enables a student to demonstrate to others his/her learning and progress. But, care should be taken that only selected works having specific purpose needs to be put into the portfolio.

Portfolios can include :

(i) Photographs : Provide an insight into child’s emotional, social and psychological development.

(ii) Paintings and Other Examples of Artistic Endeavour : Provides evidences of a learner’s abilities, thoughts and attitudes.

(iii) Audio-Video Recordings : Important processes and events that can be recorded and analysed later.

(iv) Self Assessment Sheets : Provide evidence of learner’s self-evaluation.

(v) Peer Assessment Sheets : Excellent for assessing team based activities, social projects and peer related behaviour.

(vi) Parent Assessment Sheets : Provides evidences of evaluation carried out by the parents.
