बी.एड. सेमेस्टर-1 प्रश्नपत्र-IV-C - जेण्डर, स्कूल एण्ड सोसाइटी (अंग्रेजी भाषाा में)
Question- What is the condition of women with disabilities?
Answer -
Disability is a political as well as a feminist issue. People with disabilities are among the few people in the population who are marginalized and discriminated against. There is a high possibility that such people are from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. The chances of having access to work and higher education are very less in the case of such people and their life span is comparatively small. Feminism argued that domestic violence is not just a personal issue, but it is a social problem. On the basis of this logic, feminism tried to bring the issue of domestic violence out of the purview of the home and into the public domain. Today people understand that gender-based violence is also a political issue and its continuation in society is possible due to patriarchy as patriarchy exerts itself by expressing power and control over the life of women. Barbara Faye Waxman Fiducchia in her very important study on Women and Girls with Disabilities and Violence has stated - “Women with disabilities come from age groups, ethnic, ethnic, religious and socio-economic backgrounds and gender orientations, whether rural, urban or suburban. Live in urban communities.” Disabled women and girls lie in a corner of disability and femininity with two different minority identities, they have to face double whammy of discrimination and stereotypes, they have to face many obstacles in achieving their life goals. While many women with disabilities derive immense power, flexibility and creativity from their diverse identities, they too have to face discrimination.
