Question- Write a note on the drama of ideas.

Answer -

The drama of ideas developed towards the end of the victorean age. It broke the dramatic conventions. The dramatists experimented with themes and motifes. They chose characters from amongst us and made them speak current language. They presented in these plays current problems realistically. Their themes were chosen from contemporary society and morality. The best of them showed a high level of craftsmanship and dramaturgic art. These dramatists succeeded in making drama a powerful and effective medium of social criticism and conventions. They also tried to dramatize the conflict of ideas and social attitudes. Many of them also went all out in favour of liberty, Equality and Social Justice. They also made it a new experiment in form and technique and did not follow the conventional laws.
